About Me.
Welcome to PetKare! I am the owner and sole employee Kendra Peek Harris.
I'm a Casey County native, but have lived in Junction City since 2015. My late husband and I moved here after we married.
I have one dogs, Bucket, and three step kids. I'm also a proud auntie, a writer and crafter, and I have a great love of reading and traveling!
I love animals of all sizes, although I have to leave snakes to my stepdaughter. I will care for your babies as my own! Thanks for your consideration!

I am a lifelong pet owner, having grown up on a farm with dogs, cats, chicken, cows, pigs, and even a goat for a while. He was my brother's goat more than mine!
Growing up, I wanted to be a vet. But I realized I was no good at math or science and soon shifted my interests. Eventually, I went into journalism for about six years. I loved it, but life changes constantly and we must change too! I left that field in 2018. I have been working as a Doggy Daycare and Boarding Technician at Special Care for Special Pets since 2019. I also teach online college classes in communication and journalism as an adjunct professor.
In 2020, I started doing private dog walking for a few people. After losing my husband in 2023, I realized I need to amp up my new careers or find something new.
Down the rabbit hole (or dog dug hole?) I went. As I began researching, I realized there was a lot more to this industry -- I had never dreamed I could make this my actual business! I first started on Rover and Wag! and still have active accounts there. But I realized there was a lot lacking in what that offered. So I launched out on my own, starting PetKare in March of 2024, a DBA belonging to K.P. Harris LLC.

I provide drop-in and dog walking visits as well as limited transportation. I am insured through Pet Care Insurance. I also am a member of Pet Sitters International and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. I am First Aid/CPR Certified through the American Red Cross.
As part of PSI, I am also taking continuing education courses to make me a better sitter for all the pets I care for.
I just completed the Health & Sanitation Certificate for Pet-Sitting Businesses through Pet Sitters International. I am currently working on my own health and emergency protocols, so feel free to ask me for your own copy when I get those completed!

Please reach out if you have questions! Every new client requires a meet and greet, which is free. It is a chance for us to ensure everyone, including the four-legged family, is comfortable. I will happily answer any questions I can.
And please be patient. My "hours" are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. I will limit most phone interactions to those times. If I am with a pet, I will not respond to phone calls or texts, excluding dire emergencies or the current owner. I try to ensure each pet gets my full attention. I am available some weekends and evenings upon special request.
I have to mention, I can not provide boarding services in my home, nor can I do overnight stays. My boy Bucket has a platelet disorder that requires him to be on special medication, which suppresses his immune system and requires frequent bathroom breaks. I do apologize for that.
